AlphaSense is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead mobile platform and backend systems architecture. The role bridges Mobile Engineering with cross-functional teams (application, search/AI, platform) to shape technical direction for client-facing APIs and backend architecture supporting AI-driven market intelligence products.
You will set technical direction for how backend services connect and support product workflows across web and mobile clients. Key responsibilities include: designing and implementing client-facing REST/GraphQL APIs; leading cross-team architectural initiatives around authentication, sessions, and access control; delivering production systems that span team boundaries; and mentoring engineers to deepen their technical judgment.
The company is evolving beyond search with SuperAnalyst, AI-powered workflows that monitor change and surface insights in real time. Mobile brings this intelligence to customers away from their desks, creating distinctive engineering challenges: native apps remain in customers' hands while backend services evolve continuously.
Your strongest background should be in backend and distributed-systems engineering, with deep production expertise in service boundaries, data ownership, consistency, failure recovery, and integration patterns. You should have a track record of simplifying complex architectures with measurable impact across teams or domains. Prior iOS/Android experience is not required.
