You will join the Mobile Engineering team as a Principal Engineer responsible for shaping backend systems and platform architecture that power mobile experiences. This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on cross-organizational technical leadership.
Key responsibilities include: setting technical direction for client-facing APIs and backend architecture; leading cross-team initiatives across application, search/AI, and platform teams to align on technical priorities; delivering production systems and subsystems that span team boundaries; partnering with User Management and platform teams to evolve authentication, session management, and access control for Web and Mobile clients; and mentoring engineers to deepen their technical judgment and ownership.
The role addresses a distinctive engineering challenge: native mobile apps remain in customers' hands while backend services evolve continuously. You will help decide which cross-team problems to tackle, where architectural investment has the greatest impact, and work with owning engineers to build and validate solutions in production.
Required qualifications: deep production backend and distributed-systems expertise (service boundaries, data ownership, consistency, failure recovery, integration models); strong hands-on engineering with significant personal contributions to production code; experience designing client-facing REST and GraphQL APIs; and a track record of simplifying complex architectures with measurable impact across teams or domains. Prior iOS or Android development is not required; your strongest experience should be in backend and platform engineering informed by client needs.
