Alumni Ventures is seeking a Principal to join the Blue Team, a venture investment group focused on sourcing, evaluating, and executing investments for the Blue Ivy Ventures Fund (Yale community), Nassau Street Ventures Fund (Princeton community), and the HealthTech Fund. This is a generalist investing role with primary focus on Seed and Series A companies, with flexibility across Pre-Seed and Growth-stage opportunities.
In this role, you will lead deal sourcing by proactively identifying high-quality investment opportunities aligned with the team's strategy, building and maintaining a strong pipeline across sectors and stages, and developing relationships with venture investors, founders, entrepreneurs, incubators, accelerators, and universities. You will drive conversion from sourced opportunities to qualified investments and partner with other Alumni Ventures teams to identify mutually relevant deals.
You will lead initial due diligence on potential investments, engaging directly with founders, customers, industry experts, and co-investors. You will evaluate company teams, business models, market opportunities, competitive landscapes, traction, and financing terms. You will develop clear investment memos, present recommendations through the Investment Committee process, and build proprietary market and deal intelligence.
You will contribute to successful execution of approved investments from evaluation through closing, work closely with the Managing Partner to build a high-performing portfolio, maintain alignment with investment strategy and targets, and accurately maintain deal activity and information in firm systems.
Network development is critical: you will grow and leverage a robust network of founders, venture investors, operators, and industry experts to gain access to differentiated deal flow and represent Alumni Ventures within the startup ecosystem.
Alumni Ventures operates as a 5-day-a-week in-office culture with offices in Boston, New York, Chicago, Menlo Park, Manchester NH, London, and Tokyo. The position may be based in New York City, Menlo Park, or Boston.
