Defense Unicorns, a U.S. government contractor, is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to join a team focused on advancing freedom and independence globally. This role requires U.S. citizenship and offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge platform infrastructure supporting defense and national security initiatives.
You will design, develop, and maintain cloud-native production environments with a strong emphasis on Kubernetes, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code. Your primary responsibility is to serve as the critical link between application development teams and production infrastructure, advocating for best practices and facilitating seamless communication across technical teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Automating and building runtime production environments using Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies
- Validating solutions and implementations against business requirements and technical specifications
- Independently identifying and solving complex infrastructure and platform problems
- Developing small components and utilities to address specific technical challenges
- Providing accurate time and effort estimates for medium-to-large platform initiatives
- Owning the bridge between application development and production deployment
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate components into cohesive, functional platforms
- Implementing DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and security automation
Required qualifications include proven experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role, strong proficiency with Kubernetes, Google Cloud, and Docker, and demonstrated expertise with cloud-native technologies. You must be comfortable with continuous delivery, distributed architectures, infrastructure-as-code, and containerization. Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, Ansible) plus shell scripting is essential, along with strong YAML skills. You should demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities, work independently, and communicate effectively across technical teams. Knowledge of DevSecOps/DevOps and CI/CD theory is required, with comfort debugging systems and reading/writing code.
Preferred qualifications include an active Secret security clearance or higher, experience working in remote Agile environments, expertise in security automation (API Security, Container Security, Cloud Security), and familiarity with architecture security design and performance instrumentation in enterprise environments. DoD 8570 IAT II certification is a plus.
This position involves 10-25% travel and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
