OpenAI's People Technology team is seeking a People Systems Lead to manage the People Systems team and drive the evolution of the company's core people-technology ecosystem. This role bridges strategy, technical design, and team leadership, overseeing platforms like Workday and Ashby while partnering with the People Innovation Labs to build next-generation employee experiences. You will be responsible for the reliability and effectiveness of current systems while architecting a move beyond traditional enterprise software constraints. Key responsibilities include stabilizing and improving core platforms, designing integrations across the technology ecosystem, managing vendor relationships, and developing the People Systems team. You'll work across People, Engineering, Finance, Security, Legal, and other stakeholders to translate complex organizational needs into scalable solutions. The role requires someone comfortable with both strategic thinking and hands-on technical depth. You should understand People systems workflows deeply, be able to work through integration and architecture decisions with engineers, and communicate technical choices and tradeoffs clearly to senior leaders. You will lead complex systems initiatives spanning multiple teams, design integrations across platforms and data systems, and help move the People technology ecosystem toward a headless model where workflows surface through OpenHouse, Slack, and AI agents. Ideal candidates have deep experience with People systems (particularly Workday), have led technical systems teams, and bring hands-on experience designing and managing integrations. You should be able to reason about APIs, data flows, system boundaries, permissions, reliability, and failure handling. A product mindset is essential—you'll approach systems work strategically and look beyond default vendor experiences. You must be an experienced people manager who sets clear expectations, coaches senior team members, and addresses performance issues directly. Experience with enterprise applications, HR technology, or integration platforms is valuable, as is excitement about exploring how AI can transform enterprise systems and People operations.
