NMI, a global leader in payment technologies, is seeking an HR Specialist to establish and lead the People function in their Cape Town office. This role serves as the primary HR representative for the South African operation, bridging local compliance and culture with NMI's global People team. Key responsibilities span four areas: (1) Culture & Engagement—shaping local workplace culture aligned with NMI values, driving retention initiatives, and organizing office events and perks; (2) Employee Relations—supporting managers through disciplinary, performance management, and grievance processes, ensuring full compliance with South African labour legislation (Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act), and representing NMI at the CCMA (Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration); (3) HR Administration & Compliance—managing onboarding/offboarding, local benefits, leave management, statutory reporting, developing SA-specific HR policies, creating SOPs, managing external service providers, and implementing H&S policy; (4) Training & Development—designing training for global managers on South African employment law and cultural considerations, and consulting on performance management and employee relations best practices. The role operates during later hours to align with global operations and requires close partnership with the global People team. You'll be an integral part of the onsite leadership team, acting as the face of NMI's People function in South Africa. Required: Bachelor's degree in HR, Labour Law, or related field; 5–7 years progressive HR experience; proven track record representing employers at CCMA with successful outcomes; practical knowledge of South African employment legislation and case law; experience supporting managers in global/multinational organizations (US experience required); HR certification (SABPP, CPHR SA) preferred. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, detail-oriented, collaborative, adaptable, and creative thinker with hands-on experience in engagement, culture initiatives, HR administration, and employee relations.
