Heirloom is a climate tech company solving carbon removal and climate change mitigation. They are seeking a People Ops Manager to scale their human resources operations as the company grows. You will own the full spectrum of people operations, from HR systems and compliance to culture and employee engagement. Key responsibilities include: - HRIS administration, payroll coordination, and benefits/leave/open enrollment management - Ensuring compliance with federal and state employment law, including policies, postings, audits, and employee handbook maintenance - End-to-end onboarding and offboarding, plus support for performance management cycles and manager enablement - Compensation administration (bands, offers, equity paperwork) and light recruiting support - Serving as the primary point of contact for employee questions, conflicts, and investigations, handling sensitive matters with discretion - Designing and executing engagement and culture initiatives; coaching managers through people issues - Owning company-wide communications including all-hands content, regular updates, and sensitive announcements - Defining and reporting people ops metrics to leadership - Managing vendor and tooling contracts related to people ops; taking on ad hoc operational projects as the company scales This is an early-stage company role requiring resourcefulness, initiative, and the ability to build HR processes from scratch rather than simply maintain existing systems. You will operate independently, figure things out when you don't know the answer, and improve processes when you identify gaps. REQUIREMENTS: - 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including HRIS management, payroll and benefits administration, compliance, and employee lifecycle management (including immigration support) - Track record of building HR processes and systems from scratch, not just maintaining existing ones - Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive, confidential, or high-stakes employee situations - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort drafting company-wide messaging on sensitive topics - Comfort operating with ambiguity and wearing multiple hats in a generalist operations capacity - Bias toward action: identify what's broken, propose a fix, and drive it to completion without detailed direction - Familiarity with modern HR tools and willingness to use AI and automation for efficiency and accuracy - Genuine interest in climate tech mission and comfort with the pace and resourcefulness of early-stage companies
