This role sits at the center of People Operations with primary focus on Leave of Absence (LOA) and workplace accommodations administration, serving as the HRIS subject matter expert and managing benefits for a high-volume frontline workforce. The specialist will handle end-to-end LOA administration across FMLA, state and local leave laws, personal and medical leave, and military leave from intake through return-to-work. Key responsibilities include leading the interactive process for ADA accommodation requests, partnering with employees, managers, and medical providers to identify and implement reasonable accommodations.
The role requires serving as subject matter expert on federal, state, and local leave and accommodation law, proactively monitoring regulatory changes across operating states. Case management responsibilities include tracking leave and accommodation cases, medical certifications, accommodation requests, and return-to-work clearances in leave management systems. The specialist will coordinate with disability carriers, workers' compensation administrators, and brokers on concurrent leave, disability, accommodation, and workers' comp claims.
HRIS administration duties include day-to-day system ownership, maintaining accurate employee data across HRIS, timekeeping, leave, and PEO systems. The specialist will build and run regular and ad hoc reports on headcount, turnover, leave/accommodation utilization, and benefits enrollment. Additional responsibilities include configuring HRIS workflows, approval chains, forms, and user access permissions; providing user support and training to managers and employees; ensuring data privacy and security compliance; and supporting integrations between HRIS and other systems.
The role also includes onboarding and offboarding coordination, employee relations support, HR policy guidance, and occasional assistance with background checks and performance documentation. The ideal candidate has 2+ years of HR/People Operations experience with direct exposure to leave and accommodation administration (FMLA/ADA) and/or HRIS systems. A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is required. The candidate should have working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, interactive accommodation processes, and multi-state leave laws, with hands-on HRIS platform experience. Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to handle sensitive employee data are essential. A service-oriented mindset with agility to pivot between complex case management and routine administrative tasks is valued.
