8Fleet is a rapidly growing LA-based technology and logistics startup building operational infrastructure for autonomous and non-autonomous rideshare fleets. The company is expanding across Los Angeles and beyond, seeking a People Operations Specialist based in Miami or Atlanta to join the growing People team. This role sits at the center of People Operations with primary focus on managing complex payroll operations and benefits administration for a dynamic, high-volume frontline workforce. The specialist will serve as the go-to expert for accurate and compliant payroll and benefits processing while wearing a generalist hat to support adhoc HR functions including onboarding, employee relations, and core compliance. Key responsibilities include end-to-end processing of weekly payroll for high-volume non-exempt employees in California, validating hours, overtime, differentials, and PTO. The role requires reconciling and approving semi-monthly payroll for exempt employees in partnership with the PEO, managing reimbursement processes, and serving as subject matter expert on California state wage and hour laws. The specialist will partner with operations managers to resolve timekeeping discrepancies and proactively identify and resolve complex payroll data issues, manage preparation and submission of payroll tax filings, and oversee employee deductions, complex benefit deductions, and garnishments. Benefits administration responsibilities include administering all employee benefit programs (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, FSA/HSA), processing accurate enrollments, changes, and terminations. The role serves as primary point of contact for escalated benefits and payroll inquiries, assists employees with claims, and liaisons with brokers and carriers. The specialist will manage annual open enrollment from planning and communication through system configuration and deduction audits, ensure seamless integration between HRIS/Payroll and vendor platforms, and lead internal and external audits. Onboarding and employee relations duties include facilitating new hire paperwork, conducting HR orientations, coordinating offboarding procedures, providing guidance on HR policies, assisting with tier-1 employee relations issues, and supporting engagement initiatives. The specialist will maintain clean data across HRIS, timekeeping, and PEO systems, process routine HR paperwork, and occasionally assist with background checks and performance documentation. Required qualifications include 1-2+ years of HR/People Operations experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, analytical skills, comfort handling sensitive employee data, low-ego service-oriented mindset with agility to pivot between strategic and administrative tasks, and clear communication skills.
