CuspAI is an AI-driven materials science company focused on discovering breakthrough molecules for energy, clean water, computing, and carbon capture. The company's founding team comprises world-class researchers in AI, chemistry, and engineering, and they are building a 'search engine' for next-generation materials.
You will own the People Operations function as a core member of the foundational people team during the company's scaling phase. This is a builder role for someone who finds deep satisfaction in systematizing complexity and getting operations right.
Key responsibilities include:
**Operational Excellence**: Drive cross-functional collaboration with finance, IT, payroll, recruitment, and other teams. Lead change management initiatives with significant operational impact. Act as the first point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns. Map, design, document, and execute people processes end-to-end across the employee lifecycle, building most from the ground up.
**People Data & Tech Stack**: Own and administer HR systems (e.g., Deel). Configure automated workflows, maintain data integrity, and evaluate new tooling to ensure the stack scales with headcount growth. Serve as the internal expert for system troubleshooting.
**Compliance & Employment Law**: Keep the company compliant across employment legislation, jurisdictions, and regulatory requirements. Partner with internal legal and external counsel. Manage policy documentation and flag risks proactively across all operating jurisdictions.
**Compensation, Payroll & Benefits**: Administer compensation cycles, salary changes, and benefits programs in partnership with Finance. Ensure accuracy across payroll inputs and benefits enrollment.
**Immigration & Global Mobility**: Support visa and relocation processes for new hires and relocating employees. Coordinate operational aspects including residence permits, work authorizations, and registration requirements. Act as the operational point of contact for managers and employees.
Required qualifications: 5–7 years in People Operations or generalist HR roles focused on operational execution. Deep hands-on experience configuring and auditing at least one HRIS platform. Familiarity with employment law across UK, Netherlands, USA, Germany, Singapore, and Japan. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve inconsistencies in processes and data.
