Orbital is an AI-powered platform transforming commercial real estate transactions. The company has just raised $60M in Series B funding and is expanding across the UK and US. Orbital Copilot is an AI assistant built for real estate lawyers, accelerating due diligence by up to 70% while maintaining legal-grade precision. The platform is trusted by leading firms like Goodwin and BCLP. As People Operations Lead, you will own the operational infrastructure that enables Orbital's fast-scaling team to function effectively. This is a core operational role with genuine ownership across the entire employee lifecycle, not a support function. You will report directly to the People Director and work closely with senior People and Talent leadership. Key responsibilities include: managing the people operations engine (onboarding via HiBob and connected systems, running UK and US payroll inputs, coordinating benefits administration, managing employee changes, maintaining data accuracy); handling critical details (background screening, hard deadlines, transactional employee matters, ensuring nothing falls through gaps); and driving continuous improvement (configuring workflows, improving system setups, leading projects like compensation refreshes or performance cycle tooling). You bring solid experience in People Operations, HR Operations, or People Systems at a level where you have not just executed recurring work but improved or built parts of it. You are hands-on with HRIS systems beyond basic data entry—comfortable creating fields, configuring workflows, and optimizing system functionality. You have meticulous attention to detail around payroll, employment documentation, screening, and sensitive data. You establish quickly, operate autonomously, bring proposals rather than just questions, and thrive in scaling environments where processes are still evolving. Particularly valuable: hands-on experience with HiBob or comparable HRIS at admin/configuration level; UK payroll input or benefits administration experience; background screening expertise; or prior involvement in People systems improvement or process automation projects. The role offers genuine ownership (operations run through you), progression built in (as you systematize and automate, more space opens for project and systems work), real autonomy (hired to be trusted, given tools and mandate to execute), and proximity to the business (close to senior leadership at a fast-moving, well-funded company).
