Office Hours is a hyper-growth, profitable on-demand expert network that connects leading organizations with trusted experts across knowledge domains. The company is expanding rapidly, launching new offices and products, and is backed by top marketplace investors from companies like DoorDash, Airbnb, and Affirm. Headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Brooklyn and Bangalore, Office Hours serves digital health companies, technology firms, institutional investment firms, consulting firms, and AI labs.
You will be hired as Office Hours' first People Operations Lead, owning all HR operations and infrastructure that shape the employee experience. This is a foundational role where you'll build the systems and programs that will scale as the company grows, giving you significant influence over how the people function evolves.
Key responsibilities include:
- People Systems & Data: Serve as Rippling HRIS system administrator, managing configuration, integrations, data integrity, employee records, and building reporting for headcount, attrition, and people metrics.
- Benefits & Total Rewards: Manage benefits programs end-to-end—evaluation, renewals, open enrollment, new hire enrollment, life event changes, and terminations. Coordinate with brokers, vendors, and 401(k) administrators. Handle leaves of absence and serve as the primary employee contact for benefits questions.
- Compliance & Employment Administration: Ensure compliance across all states where the company employs people, covering registrations, I-9s, EEO filings, ACA reporting, workers compensation, and unemployment claims. Maintain a compliance calendar to meet deadlines proactively.
- Performance & Development: Own performance review and promotion cycles, including timeline, system setup, communications, and calibration materials. Support managers through each step.
- Onboarding & Offboarding: Design and run onboarding and offboarding programs. Guide new hires from offer acceptance through their first weeks and handle offboarding end-to-end, including transition logistics and documentation.
- Policy Documentation & Communication: Maintain the employee handbook and people policies. Partner on policy development and own how policies are documented, rolled out, communicated, and interpreted.
- Culture & Employee Experience: Invest in programs, rituals, and communications that strengthen team connection and recognition. Gather employee feedback on what's working and what needs improvement.
The role sits on the Operations team alongside Talent and reports to the Chief of Staff & Head of Operations. This is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days per week in either the San Francisco or NYC office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4-7 years of progressive HR or people operations experience, including at least 3 years in an HR generalist role with broad responsibility ownership and ability to think about scaling.
- HRIS system administration experience, including implementation or migration, workflow configuration, performance cycle setup, integrations, audit, and reporting. Experience setting up flows, fixing integrations, and maintaining data. Rippling familiarity strongly preferred.
- Direct administration of employee benefits, including annual renewals, open enrollment, carrier and broker management, 401(k) administration, and leave coordination. Proven ability to own vendor relationships, run open enrollment end-to-end, and guide employees through leave processes.
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment regulations for multi-state employers, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ACA, I-9 and E-Verify, EEO reporting, and state-specific leave and notice requirements. Ability to maintain a compliance calendar and know when to escalate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex policies into clear employee language and communicate company-wide changes effectively.
- Comfort operating without a playbook; ability to create processes when they don't exist, document and systematize unclear or manual processes, and take initiative without waiting for templates.
- Exceptional attention to detail; ability to catch errors before they impact payroll, notice HRIS record discrepancies, and maintain high standards.
- Service orientation and responsiveness; genuine satisfaction from making others' lives easier and willingness to chase down answers rather than redirect.
BONUS EXPERIENCE:
- Experience at a high-growth company of 50-200 employees.
- Experience as the first or sole HR resource.
- Familiarity with Rippling.
- Experience supporting a distributed or international workforce.
