Town is an applied AI company building a persistent AI assistant that learns from and acts on behalf of users across their everyday work tools (email, calendar, docs, Slack, CRM). The company recently raised $55M in Series A funding led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Forerunner Ventures and First Round Capital. Founders Jean-Denis and Tony previously led EPD at Plaid and applied AI product at Google. You will own People Operations end-to-end at Town, building the function from the ground up to scale from current headcount to 100 people. This is a build role with significant latitude to design how the function operates. You'll work directly with the Head of Talent, Finance, outside counsel, and both founders. Key responsibilities include: - Owning onboarding end-to-end, from signed offer letter through 90-day ramp - Running Rippling as the system of record for payroll, benefits enrollment, employment data hygiene, and related audits - Managing HR compliance including employment policy, state registrations, leave administration, 401(k) and Form 5500 reporting, and obligations tied to headcount growth - Running immigration end-to-end with outside counsel (H-1B transfers, E-3s, green card timelines) - Serving as first point of contact for employee questions on benefits, pay, leave, and policy; handling sensitive issues with discretion - Automating repetitive work using Town's own AI tools and agents, with access to cutting-edge beta versions A unique aspect of this role is the opportunity to use Town's own product on your workflows, automating the manual work that shouldn't be manual. REQUIREMENTS: - Experience in People Ops or HR at a high-growth startup, ideally with experience building the function from scratch (not inheriting an established one) - Hands-on experience with HRIS systems and strong opinions on configuration - Exceptional organizational skills with a bias toward automating repetitive, behind-the-scenes work - Ability to handle confidential information with total discretion and steady judgment - Based in San Francisco and willing to work in-office five days per week
