Broccoli AI is building AI teammates for contractors in plumbing, HVAC, and electrical services. The company has grown to $15M+ ARR in under two years and is backed by Khosla Ventures and Y Combinator. You will own the day-to-day operational backbone of the People function, blending operational execution with process ownership and forward-looking process improvement. This is a hands-on role that ensures employees have a smooth, well-supported experience from onboarding through exit. Key responsibilities include: **Payroll & Compliance**: Act as the internal point of contact for the third-party payroll provider, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing each cycle. Guide the team on payroll and Full & Final (F&F) settlement processes, manage exit processing and statutory closures (PF, gratuity, tax filings), and evaluate vendor performance against compliance benchmarks. **Employee Travel & Mobility**: Own end-to-end travel coordination for employees with strong working knowledge of US visa processes (B1/B2, H1B). Coordinate logistics for developer/engineer travel for onboarding, client visits, and business trips, as well as interview travel for candidates. **Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle**: Manage new hire onboarding including system access and documentation. Maintain accurate employee data across HRMS, payroll, and compliance systems, ensuring consistency and integrity. **Office & Employee Experience**: Manage day-to-day office operations (lunch ordering, pantry stocking), plan employee engagement activities, and serve as a point of contact for People operations queries. **Process Governance**: Oversee process alignment and exception management in coordination with Business HR, Finance, and Compliance teams. Identify and flag process gaps. **AI-Enabled Process Improvement (Strategic Focus)**: Identify opportunities to reimagine People Operations processes through an AI-first lens. Evaluate, pilot, and operationalize emerging AI tools and automation platforms. Build scalable workflows/automations across payroll, onboarding, travel, and data management. Drive systems integration initiatives to reduce handoffs. **Requirements:** - 2–5 years of experience in HR/People Operations, HR Shared Services, or similar generalist operations role - Working knowledge of payroll cycles, statutory compliance (PF, ESI, gratuity, taxation basics), and F&F settlement processes - Prior experience handling international travel coordination, especially US visa processes (B1/B2, H1B familiarity is a plus) - Comfortable managing vendor relationships and holding third parties accountable to SLAs - Strong organisational skills with ability to juggle operational tasks alongside strategic process work - Proficiency with HRMS platforms, spreadsheets, and general comfort with digital tools - Genuine curiosity about AI tools and automation platforms (Zapier/Make, AI agents, workflow builders); prior hands-on experimentation is a strong plus - Excellent communication skills and service-oriented mindset toward employees and candidates - High attention to detail, especially around data integrity and documents **Nice to Have:** - Experience working directly with a third-party payroll vendor in a coordination/oversight capacity - Exposure to HR tech stack integrations (HRMS, payroll, compliance tools) - Prior experience building or contributing to process automation within an HR/Ops function
