LemFi is a Series B fintech company building a financial platform for the Global South, helping immigrants access remittances, multi-currency accounts, payments, credit, and wealth-building tools. The company processes over $1B in monthly transactions across 30+ countries and serves millions of users globally.
As People Lead for Africa, you will own the end-to-end people strategy and operations across LemFi's African markets including Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and South Africa, with plans to expand further. You will report directly to the VP People and split your time between strategic partnership with senior regional leaders and hands-on HR operations.
Key responsibilities include: serving as a trusted advisor to leaders across African markets on team dynamics, performance management, and organizational design; owning complex employee relations cases and providing support to the Nigeria-based People Advisor; managing and coaching the People Advisor as a direct report; ensuring South African statutory and employment law compliance (BCEA, LRA, Employment Equity Act) and overseeing compliance across other African markets; running core people operations including onboarding, offboarding, data accuracy, and recurring HR processes; consolidating people data to provide the VP People with visibility on retention, engagement, and regional health; localizing and rolling out global people initiatives while maintaining consistency with global standards; supporting the Senior People Ops Manager on global people ops projects as capacity allows; and coaching people managers across the region on LemFi's management standards.
You are a credible advisor who builds trust quickly with senior stakeholders across different markets and is comfortable challenging the status quo. You are a generalist comfortable moving between strategic work and hands-on operational tasks. You have experience managing and developing direct reports and take full ownership of your agenda without waiting to be asked.
Required qualifications: 6–9 years as an HR generalist with strong exposure to African markets (Nigeria experience is a plus); proven experience managing complex employee relations cases end-to-end; experience managing or mentoring a direct report; strong working knowledge of South African labour law and statutory requirements; experience in global or distributed businesses; proficiency with modern HRIS platforms (Rippling experience is a plus); and excellent cross-cultural communication and relationship-building skills.
