Remote is a global HR platform enabling businesses to recruit, pay, and manage international teams compliantly. The company is expanding its US Tax Operations services and seeking a Payroll Tax Analyst to build and scale this new business line from the ground up.
In this role, you will manage payroll-related state tax registrations and account maintenance with federal and state tax agencies, supporting employer onboarding and ongoing compliance. Daily responsibilities include tax filing, account setup, issue resolution with government authorities, and escalation management for registration errors and agency communications. You will review inbound tax-related issues and provide constructive feedback to internal teams and government agencies.
Beyond day-to-day operations, you will develop and execute tax operations strategies to streamline registration processes and tax filings. You will identify process improvement opportunities in tax registration workflows and collaborate with R&D to automate tax registration and reporting, improving customer onboarding efficiency. Compliance is critical: you will ensure adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations and establish high-quality assurance standards for tax operations.
You will serve as the primary point of contact for federal and state tax agencies, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring prompt issue resolution. You will communicate tax updates and insights to internal stakeholders, generate compliance reports, and utilize internal software tools to analyze customer tax data for sales team support.
Required: proven experience supervising operations in payroll or similar environments, strong project management skills, and U.S. payroll compliance expertise in a PEO context. You must demonstrate excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, strong leadership and team-building skills, and comfort with technology in a fast-paced remote setting. Outstanding written and verbal communication, ability to work autonomously, and passion for building new business lines are essential. Fluency in English is required; additional languages are valued. Ability to work U.S. hours is mandatory.
