Remote is a global employment platform that helps organizations recruit, pay, and manage international teams compliantly. This role is part of the Global Payroll Operations Team, reporting to the Manager of Global Payroll Operations.
As Payroll Specialist Lead for Japan, you will serve as the subject matter expert for payroll operations in the country. Key responsibilities include:
• Process full end-to-end payroll operations in-house, including statutory filing requirements, exceptions, approvals, payments, and compliance
• Manage relationships with key stakeholders across Payroll Implementation, Finance, Product, and Engineering teams
• Ensure full data integrity and quality across all payroll processes
• Perform accounting and reconciliations
• Monitor and optimize KPIs and SLAs
• Implement and improve payroll processes, with a focus on automation and efficiency
• Mentor and support payroll specialists on the team
• Provide backup support to regional managers during absences
You bring payroll management experience and deep knowledge of payroll best practices. You are proficient with SAP, Excel, and Google Sheets, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. You demonstrate strong automation and AI capabilities, with fluency in AI tools. You write and speak fluent English and understand asynchronous work environments. Experience working remotely is a plus but not required. You are energetic, curious, and motivated to work in a fast-paced, international setting.
