Remote is a global employment platform that helps organizations recruit, pay, and manage international teams compliantly. This Payroll Specialist Lead role is part of the Global Payroll Operations Team, reporting to the Manager of Global Payroll Operations.
You will serve as the subject matter expert for Japan payroll operations, managing end-to-end payroll processing including statutory filings, compliance, exceptions, approvals, and payments. Key responsibilities include:
- Act as country-level payroll expert and manage relationships with stakeholders across Payroll Implementation, Finance, Product, and Engineering teams
- Process full payroll cycles in-house with focus on data integrity and quality
- Handle accounting and reconciliations
- Monitor KPIs and SLAs
- Implement and improve payroll processes
- Mentor and support payroll specialists on the team
- Provide backup support to regional managers during absences
You bring payroll management experience and deep knowledge of payroll best practices. You are proficient with SAP, Excel, and Google Sheets, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. You demonstrate automation and AI fluency, which Remote emphasizes as a core capability. You write and speak fluent English and thrive in asynchronous, fast-paced international environments. Remote experience is a plus but not required.
