Salary: USD 75,000 - 100,000 / annual
Self Financial is a venture-backed fintech company on a mission to increase economic inclusion and financial resilience by empowering people to build credit and savings. The Payroll Manager will own accurate and timely payroll processing, ensuring compliance with tax and labor regulations while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
Key responsibilities include:
Payroll Processing: Prepare and process regular and off-cycle payroll with accuracy and adherence to deadlines. Maintain comprehensive employee payroll records including tax forms, benefits deductions, and direct deposit information. Calculate and verify pay adjustments, overtime, bonuses, and other compensations. Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws. Address payroll discrepancies and resolve employee concerns promptly. Generate payroll reports and provide data for financial analysis and audits.
Benefit Reconciliation: Reconcile benefit plan data against payroll records using the Everything Benefits reconciliation system. Reconcile benefit records to the general ledger system. Ensure proper remittance of benefit deductions to vendors, including 401k plans.
Payroll Financial Tasks: Accrue and reconcile payroll liabilities. Prepare payroll, benefit, and expense fluctuation explanations. Prepare quarterly payroll-to-general ledger reconciliations.
Compliance and Reporting: Stay current on payroll laws and reporting regulations, updating the payroll system as needed. Process quarterly and annual payroll reconciliations. Prepare year-end tax forms including W-2s. Support internal and external audits with requested documentation.
Collaboration: Serve as the point of contact for employee payroll inquiries. Work closely with HR on employee data management including new hires, terminations, and salary changes.
Required qualifications: BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources (or equivalent experience). 5-7+ years in complex payroll processing including tax, benefits, and GL reconciliation. Strong understanding of payroll laws and tax regulations. Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail. Strong problem-solving and communication abilities. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
Preferred: Certified Payroll Professional certification. Proficiency in payroll software, particularly UKG Ready.
