Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market platform, enabling individuals to trade on real-world outcomes across politics, economics, sports, and culture. The company processed $21B in trading volume in 2025 and is scaling rapidly as an alternative news source. The Payroll Manager role reports directly to the Controller and owns end-to-end payroll operations for a growing, multi-state employee base. This is a foundational position within a small, fast-moving Finance team that is building financial infrastructure from the ground up rather than maintaining legacy systems. Key responsibilities include: - Running complete payroll processing each cycle, handling wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and benefits across multiple states - Reconciling timekeeping data, garnishments, and benefits deductions before every close, identifying discrepancies proactively - Managing federal, state, and local tax withholding and remittance obligations independently, resolving compliance gaps - Configuring and maintaining Rippling or Deel as the company scales, adapting to headcount growth and evolving compensation structures - Partnering with HR on new hires, terminations, and compensation changes to maintain accurate real-time payroll records - Preparing payroll reports for Finance, HR, and external audits; managing year-end filings including W-2s and 1099s - Identifying and eliminating manual processes through system configuration and automation The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of progressive payroll or accounting experience with direct ownership of multi-state payroll and tax compliance. Prior experience at high-growth tech startups where processes were being built (not just followed) is essential. Hands-on experience with Rippling or Deel is strongly preferred. The role requires demonstrated ability to process payroll with zero material errors across complex compensation structures including bonuses, commissions, and equity. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements is mandatory. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent) is required. CPP certification, prior public company payroll experience, and experience with non-standard compensation structures involving crypto, tokens, or equity are valued additions.
