The Payroll Manager will own end-to-end payroll administration for the organization, serving as the primary owner of all payroll processes. This role operates at the intersection of Finance, HR, and Compliance, partnering cross-functionally to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely compensation for all employees. Key responsibilities include: executing full-cycle payroll processing for all employee types (salaried, hourly, contractors) using Rippling, ensuring on-time and accurate disbursements; processing off-cycle payrolls, manual checks, and retroactive adjustments; managing final pay calculations for terminated employees in compliance with state law; serving as the first point of contact for employee payroll inquiries; managing tax filings and remittances (941s, W-2s, 1099s, state/local equivalents); configuring automated payroll workflows and approval chains; participating in HR and Finance system projects; documenting payroll processes and internal controls; coordinating with HR/Benefits teams on benefit deductions; and providing payroll data to support budgeting and financial planning. Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, HR, or related field; 2-5 years of progressive payroll management experience; experience processing payroll for 200+ employees across multiple states with required experience in California and Illinois; minimum 2 years of hands-on Rippling experience including system configuration, pay group management, tax settings, and workflow automation; advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis); understanding of Rippling integration with benefits carriers, time & attendance systems, and GL platforms. Prior standalone or lead payroll role preferred. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation preferred; FPC considered. Experience with ADP, Paylocity, Workday, or similar platforms is a plus. The role is remote with preference for candidates in Central and Eastern time zones, though candidates elsewhere will be considered. Estimated start date: November 2, 2026.
