This role reports to the Senior Director of Talent, Systems and Total Rewards and is responsible for managing a payroll team while ensuring absolute accuracy, multi-state tax compliance, and continuous process optimization.
Key responsibilities include overseeing payroll execution across a diverse workforce of manufacturing and engineering employees, managing complex shift differentials, labor distribution, and strict wage-and-hour compliance (FLSA). You will serve as the primary escalation point for employee payroll inquiries and establish internal customer service SLAs. The role owns the payroll-to-accounting lifecycle, including month-end closing, journal entries, and reconciliation against the General Ledger.
You will monitor and apply multi-state, local, and workers' compensation tax updates, manage adjustments for complex compensation structures including health/retirement benefits and equity tracking, and act as the primary relationship owner for the ADP payroll vendor. You will direct preparation of quarterly and annual tax filings, serve as the lead interface for internal and external audits, and partner with HR and Finance leadership to design automation workflows and scalable process improvements.
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years in accounting, finance, or HR with direct people management experience. A Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential is highly preferred. You must have 3–5 years managing payroll in a manufacturing or production environment with deep understanding of complex time-tracking, FLSA compliance, shift differentials, overtime rules, and multi-facility setups. Advanced expertise in ADP systems and multi-state payroll tax laws is required, along with strong communication and organizational skills.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week onsite at either the Weirton, WV manufacturing facility (Form Factory 1, a 550,000-square-foot high-volume battery production hub) or the Somerville, MA office. Relocation assistance is available. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, comprehensive benefits including 100% medical/dental/vision premiums for employees, and generous parental leave.
