Salary: USD 160,000 - 190,000 / annual

The Accounting team sits at the center of Decagon's growth, building the financial foundation for a rapidly scaling startup. The Payroll Manager will own global payroll operations, payroll accounting, and stock administration, transforming these into smooth, scalable systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Run end-to-end payroll for U.S. and international entities, handling new hires, terminations, bonuses, commissions, and equity compensation
- Own stock administration in Carta: grants, exercises, terminations, repurchases, and associated tax and reporting
- Close payroll and equity monthly: accruals, reconciliations, stock comp expense support, and auditor schedules
- Manage payroll tax compliance across states and countries, including new registrations, mobile employees, and year-end filings
- Document processes, build controls, and automate manual workflows
- Expand into broader accounting operations: T&E policy and compliance, accounts payable, and month-end reconciliations
Required experience: 4-6 years of progressive payroll experience with full U.S. and international payroll ownership. Must have payroll tax fluency (registrations, multi-state nexus, year-end forms), deep compliance and regulatory knowledge, and working knowledge of equity compensation (ISO/NSO, exercises, dispositions, withholding, reporting). Carta experience preferred; ability to learn quickly is essential. Must be comfortable with journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations. Rippling experience helpful. Strong attention to detail, independent problem-solving, and proactive ownership mindset required for fast-moving startup environment.
Ideal candidates have hyper-growth company experience, have stood up payroll in new countries, worked directly with external auditors on payroll and equity testing, or have AP, AR, or T&E operations exposure.
