Via Transportation is seeking a Payroll Lead for EMEA to own the end-to-end payroll process for over 1,400 employees across the region. In this role, you will actively process payroll for Via's German hourly workforce while providing leadership and oversight to Payroll Managers responsible for Israel and the rest of Europe (UK, Germany, France, and the Netherlands). Key responsibilities include: owning and driving the monthly payroll process for Germany in partnership with external payroll providers and internal Finance, People, and Operations teams; providing leadership and guidance to Payroll Managers across Israel and Europe to ensure consistent standards and best practices; monitoring changes in German tax regulations, wage laws, and compliance requirements; performing regular payroll audits to maintain accuracy and integrity of employee pay data; designing and implementing process improvements and internal controls; managing benefit deductions and tax withholdings with precision and confidentiality; leading payroll-related financial reporting including journal entries and general ledger reconciliation; supporting escalated payroll queries; and contributing to cross-functional projects that strengthen payroll processes. You bring 7+ years of payroll experience in Germany, including with hourly and shift-based employees, with strong knowledge of local regulations and tax requirements. You are familiar with payroll in other EMEA countries such as Israel, UK, France, and the Netherlands. You are comfortable with HRIS and payroll systems such as P&I Loga and highly proficient in Microsoft Excel. You work with precision and ownership—detail-oriented, reliable, and able to meet strict deadlines independently. You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across Finance, People, and other internal teams. You are proactive and process-driven, always seeking ways to improve workflows. Prior experience leading or guiding a team is a plus. Fluency in English is required; German is a plus. The role is based in London with flexibility for remote work, provided you can travel up to once a month to either Berlin or Amsterdam to participate in payroll processing with local teams. Via offers a competitive salary range of £60-100k per year plus equity, a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid parental leave and health scheme through AXA, partnership with YellowNest for childcare fee reduction, and a Cycle to Work Scheme.
