Salary: EUR 70,000 - 120,000 / annual
Via Transportation is seeking a Payroll Lead for the EMEA region to own end-to-end payroll operations for over 1,400 employees across Europe. In this role, you will directly manage the monthly payroll process for Via's German hourly workforce while providing leadership and oversight to Payroll Managers responsible for Israel, UK, France, and the Netherlands.
Key responsibilities include: executing accurate and timely monthly payroll for Germany in partnership with external payroll providers and internal Finance, People, and Operations teams; providing guidance and ensuring consistent standards across the EMEA payroll team; monitoring German tax regulations and compliance requirements to keep processes aligned with evolving legal standards; conducting regular payroll audits to maintain data integrity and designing process improvements and internal controls; managing benefit deductions and tax withholdings with precision and confidentiality; leading payroll-related financial reporting including journal entries and general ledger reconciliation; supporting escalated payroll queries; and contributing to cross-functional projects that strengthen payroll processes.
You bring 7+ years of payroll experience in Germany with expertise in hourly and shift-based employee processing, strong knowledge of local regulations and tax requirements, and familiarity with payroll in other EMEA countries. You are proficient with HRIS and payroll systems such as P&I Loga and highly skilled in Microsoft Excel. You work with precision, attention to detail, and ownership, meeting strict deadlines independently. You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across Finance, People, and Operations teams. You are proactive and process-driven, continuously seeking workflow improvements. Prior experience leading or mentoring a team is a plus. Fluency in English is required; German language skills are advantageous.
The role is based in Amsterdam with flexibility for remote work, provided you can travel to Berlin or Amsterdam up to once monthly for in-person payroll processing with local teams.
