Via is a transportation technology platform transforming public transit systems globally. As Payroll Lead for EMEA, you will own end-to-end payroll operations for 1,400+ employees across the region, with primary responsibility for Germany's hourly workforce and leadership oversight of payroll managers in Israel, UK, France, and the Netherlands.
Key responsibilities include: executing monthly payroll for Via Germany in partnership with external providers and internal teams; leading and mentoring payroll managers across EMEA to ensure consistent standards; monitoring German tax regulations and compliance requirements; conducting regular payroll audits to maintain accuracy and integrity; managing benefit deductions and tax withholdings; leading payroll-related financial reporting including journal entries and GL reconciliation; supporting escalated payroll queries; and contributing to cross-functional process improvement initiatives.
You bring 7+ years of payroll experience in Germany, including exposure to hourly/shift-based employees and strong knowledge of local regulations. Familiarity with payroll in other EMEA countries (Israel, UK, France, Netherlands) is expected. You are proficient with HRIS/payroll systems such as P&I Loga and advanced Excel skills. You work with precision, attention to detail, and reliability, meeting strict deadlines independently. You communicate clearly across Finance, People, and Operations teams, and are proactive about identifying process improvements. Prior team leadership experience is a plus. English fluency is required; German is advantageous.
The role is based in London with flexibility for remote work, provided you can travel to Berlin or Amsterdam up to once monthly for in-person payroll processing with local teams. Via offers competitive compensation (£60-100k annually plus equity), comprehensive benefits including generous parental leave, health insurance via AXA, childcare support through YellowNest, and cycle-to-work schemes.
