Salary: EUR 70,000 - 120,000 / annual
Via is a transportation technology platform transforming public transit systems globally. As Payroll Lead for EMEA, you will own end-to-end payroll operations for 1,400+ employees across the region, with primary responsibility for Germany's hourly workforce and leadership oversight of payroll managers in Israel, UK, France, and the Netherlands.
Key responsibilities include: executing monthly payroll for Via Germany in partnership with external providers and internal teams; providing strategic guidance and ensuring compliance standards across EMEA payroll managers; monitoring German tax regulations and wage law changes to maintain compliance; conducting regular payroll audits and implementing process improvements; managing benefit deductions and tax withholdings with precision; leading payroll-related financial reporting including journal entries and GL reconciliation; supporting escalated payroll queries; and contributing to cross-functional operational improvements.
You bring 7+ years of payroll experience in Germany, including hourly/shift-based employee processing and deep knowledge of local regulations. You have familiarity with payroll across other EMEA countries (Israel, UK, France, Netherlands), proficiency with HRIS/payroll systems like P&I Loga, and advanced Excel skills. You are detail-oriented, reliable, and able to meet strict deadlines independently. You communicate clearly across Finance, People, and Operations teams, and are proactive about process improvement. Prior team leadership experience is a plus. English fluency is required; German is preferred.
The role is based in Amsterdam with flexibility for remote work, provided you can travel to Berlin or Amsterdam up to once monthly for in-person payroll processing. Compensation: €70,000–€120,000 annually plus equity. Benefits include monthly health stipend, 25 vacation days, and access to a central Amsterdam office with weekly team lunch and breakfast.
