Scentbird is seeking a Payments Optimization Product Manager to own and optimize the company's subscription and payments platform. This is an analysis-driven, hands-on role focused on maximizing payment recovery and authorization rates across Scentbird's multi-brand portfolio (Scentbird, Deck of Scarlet, Confessions of a Rebel, Goodhabit, Sanctuary, and Drift). You will be responsible for end-to-end retry and dunning strategy, including retry cadence, recovery lifecycle, and hard versus soft decline handling across all business units. You'll own decline and authorization rate performance at the processor, gateway, region, and BIN level, converting findings into routing, retry, or fraud rule changes. You will create robust processes for execution that balance safety with rapid iteration, logging, analysis, and management. You'll run the payments operating cadence, monitoring failed-payment queues, decline and authorization rates, and gateway health—serving as the first responder when payment performance degrades. You own the recovery metric set and baselines including dunning recovery rate, authorization rate, chargeback rate, and payment cost as a percentage of processed volume. Additional responsibilities include owning authorization rate levers (account updater, network token coverage, retry timing, failover extension), partnering with Financial Systems, CX, CRM, and Retention teams to align dunning messaging and billing waves, and reporting payment performance regularly to Product, Finance, and leadership. This role requires deep payments and subscription expertise, strong analytical ability, and judgment to distinguish signal from noise in payment data. You will find problems in the data, hypothesize changes, and write requirements for engineering to execute. **Requirements:** - 7+ years in payments, billing, or subscription operations at a recurring revenue business, with direct ownership of dunning, retry, or authorization rate outcomes - Real domain fluency: decline codes and issuer behavior, BIN-level analysis, MIT versus CIT and stored credential mandates, exemption handling, network tokens and account updater, interchange, and chargeback lifecycle - Hands-on configuration experience in a subscription billing platform and in a gateway or PSP - Comfort with BI tools; ability to generate reporting independently and form your own view of where money is leaking - Ability to write requirements engineers can build from, including success metrics and acceptance criteria, and defend prioritization - Measurement rigor: ability to prove a retry or routing change worked and distinguish real lift from seasonality, mix shift, or variance - Multi-brand, multi-currency, and multi-country exposure - Proficiency using AI agents and LLMs for synthesis, pattern discovery, red teaming, and automation of rote tasks, with judgment to keep cardholder data within compliance boundaries - Margin awareness: understanding that recovered payments, fraud rules, and false declines all land on the same P&L, with ability to size trade-offs - Comfort operating with ambiguity and influencing without authority across Engineering, Financial Systems, CX, and CRM - Plus: PCI-DSS Level 1 environment experience - Plus: Reconciliation, settlement, or ERP-side finance work exposure - Plus: Subscription business experience with physical goods, logistics, or inventory constraints
