Adyen is seeking a Payment Terminal Certification Expert to own the Level 2 kernel certification portfolio for its in-person payments infrastructure. This role sits at the center of EMV certification work, ensuring Adyen's proprietary contact and contactless payment kernels meet EMVCo type approval requirements and comply with specifications from Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB, UnionPay, and other payment schemes.
You will own the technical preparation and execution of Level 2 kernel certifications end-to-end. This includes coordinating type approval testing with external certification labs, analyzing test results, investigating failures at the APDU and transaction-flow level, and translating findings into actionable guidance for kernel developers. You will serve as the connective link between Adyen's engineering teams, external certification labs, and payment schemes, managing relationships and ensuring clear communication across all parties.
Key responsibilities include managing the certification calendar to ensure submissions land on schedule, preventing delta certifications from becoming surprises, and proactively identifying problems before they escalate. You will need to stay current with evolving EMVCo specifications, scheme bulletins, and test plan updates.
The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of hands-on experience performing Level 2 certifications for contact and contactless kernels, with strong EMV knowledge at the kernel level. You should be comfortable working with EMV test tooling, card simulators, and reading APDU traces. Experience with EMV Level 3 brand certification is a plus. You are an excellent communicator who can explain technical failures to engineers and engage productively with external labs and payment schemes. You drive for results with a strong output mindset, take initiative, and balance project management with technical analysis.
