Hadrian is building autonomous factories to reindustrialize America, combining AI, advanced software, robotics, and full-stack manufacturing to help aerospace and defense companies build mission-critical systems up to 10x faster and at lower cost. The company recently raised $1.37B in Series D funding at a $7.87B valuation and is rapidly expanding manufacturing capabilities across welding, casting, forging, electronics, and additive manufacturing.
As Paint Engineer, you will own the end-to-end industrialization of Hadrian's coating line in Los Angeles, from surface prep and blasting through wet paint, powder, cure, specialty coatings, inspection, and final buy-off. You are the accountable owner of the facility's fire and life-safety compliance posture, responsible for equipment specification and vendor selection for the turnkey coating process, and will select and train the cross-functional team to operate the line post-launch.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning facility fire and life-safety compliance under NFPA 33, 86, 70 (NEC), 30/30B and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.107, .94, .146, and .134; driving AHJ (fire marshal) coordination, permitting, and fire-protection system acceptance
- Leading functional specification, vendor RFQ/evaluation, and Site/Factory Acceptance Testing for coating, cure, ventilation, and fire-suppression/detection equipment
- Defining process windows, qualifying equipment, and writing/validating work instructions across all coating steps
- Selecting and standing up the coating line's support team, defining operator training and certification matrices, and executing train-the-trainer programs
- Solving yield and throughput issues during process maturation and formally handing the line to production
Required experience includes hands-on aerospace/defense MRO coatings work with MIL-SPEC/CARC and AMS-spec coatings, corrosion control, surface prep and stripping, masking, and first-article inspection. You must have proven applied experience with NFPA and OSHA regulations as they apply to paint operations, a track record writing equipment specifications and managing vendor selection, and experience standing up teams via train-the-trainer. You will work on the shop floor daily alongside equipment engineering, commissioning, troubleshooting, and inspection activities.
Desirable qualifications include experience launching a paint or mixed-coatings line from facility bring-up through steady-state production in defense/aerospace, NADCAP and/or AS9100 quality-system exposure, PLC/controls fluency, direct experience negotiating fire-protection requirements with an AHJ, and a history of building and certifying trainers.
Role is on-site in Los Angeles throughout specification and design, and full-time on the floor through installation, commissioning, and launch. ITAR compliance required: must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
