Blank Street is seeking an Operations Manager to lead an entire area of 5+ coffee and beverage stores in Philadelphia. You will report to the Director of Operations and serve as the ultimate leader of the General Managers who run each location.
Your primary responsibility is growing people. You will hire, coach, and develop a high-performing team of GMs, helping them become confident leaders who build engaged teams across stores. You are also the strategic mind behind your area's performance: you will own the PnL, plan and prioritize initiatives, and drive continuous improvement day by day.
Key responsibilities include:
**Hospitality Leadership**: Coach GMs to build systems and processes that maintain high hospitality standards every shift. Conduct regular store visits and use data to hold GMs accountable for closing performance gaps. Take an active role in turning around struggling stores and launching new locations.
**P&L Management**: Translate quarterly sales forecasts from HQ into store-by-store plans. Set labor targets a quarter in advance, including headcount and inter-store transfers. Help GMs calibrate inventory to match demand forecasts and set guardrails to prevent overstocking or shortages.
**Team Development**: Grow GMs into future leaders through training pathways, regular 1:1s, and direct feedback. Own the talent pipeline by calibrating hiring and promotion decisions across your area. Set quarterly succession targets from barista to GM. Build an area-wide culture that is fast-moving, high-energy, collaborative, and distinctly Blank Street.
**Strategic Operations**: Master your stores' KPIs and P&L. Set clear weekly and quarterly priorities. Work with each GM to build and execute store-level plans. Roll out new initiatives (menu launches, tech tools) with clear communication, hands-on training, and tracked adoption.
You will report to the Director of Operations and work closely with the Field Leadership team to scale the next generation of leaders while driving exceptional experiences for teams and customers.
Availability: Must be able to travel regularly between stores within your market. Full-time role requiring 50 hours per week, 5 days of availability, and availability to work 2 peak days (typically Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of leadership experience in hospitality, retail, or fast-growing consumer business
- Experience leading multiple locations (3–10) and developing the managers who run them
- Passionate about hospitality with a track record of creating exceptional customer and employee experiences
- Strong operational and financial judgment; ability to read P&L and KPI dashboards and determine next steps
- Proven people leadership: experience developing managers, hiring high-performing teams, coaching, and leading through change
- Strategic planning capability: ability to plan a quarter ahead and translate priorities into actionable plans for GMs
- Excellent communication skills: sharp writing (Slack, Notion, email) and confident public speaking (area meetings, workshops)
