Blank Street is a fast-growing food and beverage brand on a mission to become the defining brand of its generation. As Operations Manager, you will lead an entire area of 5+ stores and the General Managers who run them, reporting to the Director of Operations.
Your primary responsibility is growing people. You will hire, coach, and develop General Managers into confident leaders who build engaged, high-performing teams. You are also the strategic mind behind your stores' performance, owning the area's P&L and deciding how to plan, prioritize, and execute so stores improve day by day.
Key Responsibilities:
Hospitality Leadership: Coach GMs to build systems, behaviors, and processes that maintain high hospitality standards every shift. Hold standards through regular store visits and data analysis, holding GMs accountable for closing gaps quickly. Take an active role in turning around struggling stores and launching new locations.
P&L Management: Translate quarterly sales forecasts from HQ into store-by-store plans, ensuring every GM understands upcoming growth, slowdowns, seasonality, and new openings. Set labor targets a quarter out, including headcount and transfers between stores. Help GMs calibrate inventory to forecast demand and set guardrails to prevent overstocking or shortages.
Talent Development: Grow GMs into future leaders through training pathways, regular 1:1s, and direct feedback. Own the talent pipeline by calibrating hiring and promotion decisions across your area and setting quarterly succession targets from barista to GM. Build an area-wide culture that is fast-moving, high-energy, collaborative, and fun.
Strategic Operations: Master your stores' KPIs and P&L, setting clear priorities weekly and quarterly. Work with each GM to build store-specific plans and stay close as they execute. Roll out new initiatives (menu launches, tech tools) with clear communication, hands-on training, and real buy-in from teams, tracking adoption until it sticks.
You'll work closely with the Field Leadership team to scale the next generation of leaders while driving exceptional experiences for both teams and customers.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of leadership experience in hospitality, retail, or another fast-growing consumer business
- Experience leading multiple locations (3–10) and developing the managers who run them
- Passionate about hospitality with a track record of creating exceptional customer and employee experiences
- Strong operational and financial judgment; ability to read P&L and KPI dashboards and determine next steps
- Proven people leadership with experience developing managers, hiring A-teams, making decisions, and leading through change
- Strategic planning capability; ability to plan a quarter ahead and translate priorities into actionable plans for GMs
- Excellent communication skills in writing (Slack, Notion, email) and speaking (area meetings, workshops)
- Able to travel regularly between stores within your market
- Full-time commitment: 50 hours per week, 5 days availability required, must be available to work 2 peak days (typically Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
