True Anomaly is seeking an Operations Engineer III to lead mission operations for advanced autonomous spacecraft designed for space superiority and national security. In this role, you will own the complete lifecycle of spacecraft operations—from procedure development and mission simulation through real-time execution, anomaly resolution, and post-mission analysis.
Key responsibilities include planning and executing both simulated and live spacecraft missions across all phases, including complex Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO). You will develop and maintain comprehensive spacecraft operations procedures by leveraging deep expertise in flight software, spacecraft hardware, and ground systems. During operations, you'll monitor spacecraft telemetry and system health in real time, identify on-orbit anomalies, lead anomaly resolution planning, and coordinate corrective actions with engineering teams.
You will perform orbit state determination for cooperative, non-cooperative, and uncooperative space vehicles and derive intent from observed behaviors. As a subject matter expert, you'll inform the development and refinement of flight software and ground system capabilities. Cross-functional collaboration is essential—you'll work closely with systems, guidance/navigation/control (GNC), flight software, ground software, and hardware engineering teams to support vehicle development, integration, and test activities.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of spacecraft operations experience, preferably with team leadership experience. You must hold a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, and be eligible for a DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance. Strong demonstrated ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, real-time mission environments with sound judgment and composure is essential.
Preferred experience includes a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or Astrodynamics, Space Domain Awareness (SDA) expertise, prior RPO or on-orbit servicing missions, familiarity with national security space missions, GNC concepts for proximity operations, proficiency with astrodynamics tools (AGI STK, GMAT), flight procedure development, ground system architecture knowledge, hardware/software-in-the-loop testing support, anomaly investigation and fault tree analysis, and scripting/programming skills in Python or MATLAB.
