Voyager Technologies is seeking an MSAD Systems Engineer V (Team Manager) to serve as a senior technical lead in Modeling, Simulation, and Algorithm Design while providing people leadership for an engineering team. This role supports propulsion and aerospace programs through high-fidelity modeling, algorithm development, simulation architecture, and system-level performance assessment.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering within the Controllable Solid Propulsion department, you will be responsible for developing high-fidelity models and control algorithms for propulsion, flight control, and guidance subsystems. You will develop system simulation architectures that support design iteration, verification, and validation, perform controllability studies, define control system topologies, and support gain-tuning methodologies across system architectures.
Key responsibilities include supporting performance engineering through requirement derivation, margin analysis, performance trade studies, and Monte Carlo, sensitivity, and parametric analyses. You will apply physics-based modeling to mechanical, thermal, aerodynamic, ballistics, propulsion, and actuation systems. Collaboration with multidisciplinary GNC, software, systems, and test teams is essential to integrate modeling products and participate in customer engagements and technical reviews.
You will author and review technical documentation, ensuring simulation models meet requirements for verification, validation, traceability, and configuration control. Mentoring engineers and supporting technical trade studies, concept maturation, and modeling and controls peer reviews are core aspects of this role. The position is hybrid or remote and can be based in Folsom, CA, Reno, NV, Huntsville, AL, Long Beach, CA, or fully remote within the US.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university (equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
- 10+ years of modeling, simulation, and algorithm design experience
- Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering, modeling and simulation, control systems, or a closely related technical discipline
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to work effectively in highly collaborative multidisciplinary environments
- Experience leading and managing small technical teams and developing team members
- Demonstrated ability to take on increasing technical responsibility and work independently on fast-paced programs
- Experience with MATLAB and MATLAB Simulink programming, or similar tools
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level
- Must be a U.S. Person (US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) and eligible to obtain export authorizations per ITAR/EAR
Preferred Qualifications:
- Controllable Solid Rocket Propulsion System performance modeling experience
- Functional management of small, highly technical teams
Travel requirement: approximately 10% of the time.
