Saronic Technologies, founded in 2022 and headquartered in Austin, is developing autonomous surface vessels for maritime defense. The Metrology Engineer role combines two key responsibilities: metrology programming and tooling engineering.
In the metrology capacity, you will develop, validate, and maintain dimensional inspection programs using CMM, 3D scanning, and related systems to support production. You'll create and optimize inspection routines from CAD models, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements. You'll support the inspection team by delivering production-ready inspection programs and fulfill special measurement requests from Engineering and R&D, including prototype, first-off, and investigative studies. You'll perform measurement system analysis (MSA/Gage R&R), drive improvements in measurement uncertainty and repeatability, analyze measurement data, and generate inspection reports communicating dimensional deviations.
As the Tooling Engineer, you'll own engineered tooling and fixtures across their full lifecycle. This includes tracking and maintaining inventory with identification, status, location, and configuration control; conducting surveillance including periodic verification, condition monitoring, and calibration scheduling; managing controlled release to production with validation and documentation; and maintaining documentation, revision history, and records per quality and configuration-management requirements. You'll coordinate design, procurement, build, and rework with Engineering, R&D, and suppliers.
You'll collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, R&D, and Production to resolve dimensional and tooling issues, ensure compliance with internal procedures and metrology standards, and drive continuous improvement in inspection programming, measurement accuracy, and tooling reliability.
Required qualifications include hands-on experience programming CMMs and/or 3D scanning systems (PC-DMIS, Calypso, Polyworks, or similar); strong proficiency interpreting CAD models, engineering drawings, and GD&T; experience with MSA/Gage R&R and dimensional data analysis; experience designing, specifying, or managing tooling and fixtures; familiarity with tooling lifecycle control and configuration management; and strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field is preferred but not required. Knowledge of vehicle systems and assemblies is preferred.
