LatchBio is seeking a Member of Technical Staff to establish and lead small molecule drug discovery expertise within the company. You will serve as the scientific authority on small molecule development from hit identification through IND (Investigational New Drug) filing, owning the design and execution of small molecule benchmarks that measure AI system capabilities in drug discovery and development.
In this newly created role, you will author and ship flagship benchmarks including SmallMolecule-Development-TxBench, SmallMolecule-Translation-TxBench, and SmallMolecule-TxBench-Long. You will be the final scientific reviewer for all small molecule claims and programs at Latch, ensuring accuracy and rigor. You may collaborate on and potentially run drug programs in partnership with wet labs, guiding discovery and development workflows as Latch explores agent-directed drug programs in real laboratory settings.
You will work with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to design and execute experiments that inform benchmark and agent development. Beyond individual execution, you will build this function from the ground up—recruiting advisors, establishing partnerships, and developing a hiring plan to scale the small molecule discovery capability.
Latch builds AI agents and benchmarks for biological research, with over 10,000 scientists using the platform for R&D. The company is the only biotech firm referenced in the biology sections of frontier AI model cards, grounding benchmarks in real biological and clinical work to advance AI systems that can design experiments, interpret data, and advance compounds through clinical trials.
The role is full-time, in-person at Latch's waterfront office in China Basin, San Francisco, with a five-day-per-week office requirement. The team comprises approximately 95 people across San Francisco and remote locations, backed by investors including Lux Capital, Coatue, Fifty Years, Haystack, and notable individuals like Jeff Dean and George Church.
