As a Member of Technical Staff II in Cloud Security, you will develop containerized microservices for a distributed multi-tenant system that processes real-time data, events, and network telemetry from multiple public clouds. Your work will provide real-time insights, visibility, and security recommendations to customers, helping them identify and minimize risk in cloud environments.
Key responsibilities include designing services and defending your architecture before peers, delivering rock-solid implementations, and mentoring junior engineers and new graduates. You will own critical features and subsystems across the entire software development lifecycle—from clarifying requirements through successful deployment and customer usage. You'll also own operational aspects of the system, gaining firsthand experience with the challenges of operating distributed systems, which informs better software design.
You will primarily write code in Go and work with data pipelines using SQL, leveraging Kubernetes as the service infrastructure platform. The role emphasizes code quality through early developer testing and functional/integration testing to ensure robust, resilient products. You'll partner with Product Management to refine requirements that exceed customer expectations and develop deep understanding of fundamental customer problems through stakeholder and peer interaction.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent, 2+ years building distributed and scalable software systems, and passion for continuous learning. You must have AWS/Azure/GCP cloud experience at the API/programming level, with networking and security controls experience preferred. Kubernetes containerized service delivery experience is desired. Technical skills required: Go and SQL proficiency, REST API client experience, Unix/Linux programming environment expertise, and general TCP/IP networking knowledge. CloudFormation, Terraform, and Ansible are nice-to-have skills.
The role is 5 days per week on-site at Illumio's Sunnyvale, CA headquarters. This position involves access to software/technology subject to U.S. export controls; any offer is contingent on compliance capacity.
