Salary: USD 90,000 - 180,000 / annual
Nutanix is seeking a Member of Technical Staff 1 to join the Core Storage and Disaster Recovery Data Path team. You will engineer the foundational data engine powering hundreds of thousands of Nutanix clusters globally, owning the high-performance, low-latency storage path responsible for block-level data and metadata management. Your work ensures absolute resilience for customers' mission-critical applications across private, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments.
In this role, you will design and develop software for a converged computing and storage platform for the software-defined data center. You'll develop deep understanding of complex distributed systems and design innovative solutions for customer requirements. Key responsibilities include improving performance, scale-out, and resiliency of distributed storage systems; collaborating closely with development teams, testers, documentation writers, and product management; and engaging with customers and support to solve production issues.
This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, with expectations to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week. You'll work in a collegiate, collaborative environment that encourages open exploration of ideas and operates in a fast-paced agile setting.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (required); advanced degree preferred
- Strong programming skills in one or more of: C, C++, Java, Python, ideally for enterprise-quality software
- Deep understanding of UNIX/Linux internals
- Development experience in file systems, operating systems, database back-ends, distributed systems management, or cloud technologies (preferred)
- Experience with MapReduce, Cassandra, Zookeeper, and other large-scale distributed systems (preferred)
- Familiarity with OS internals, concepts of distributed data management, and design/implementation trade-offs in building clustered, high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, Xen; VMware preferred)
- Familiarity with x86 architecture, virtualization, and/or storage management
- Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Can-do attitude while solving difficult problems spanning multiple teams
- Comfortable working in fast-moving agile environments
