9amHealth is an AI-enabled virtual specialty care platform managing high-cost chronic conditions at scale. The company partners with employers, health plans, and pharmacy benefit managers to deliver comprehensive, cost-effective medical care for individuals with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and autoimmune conditions. Members receive access to specialized clinicians, at-home lab testing, prescription medications, and lifestyle support.
The Supervising Medical Director for the Autoimmune Program provides clinical leadership, direct patient care, and program oversight for 9amHealth's autoimmune care offering. This physician will deliver direct consultative care to members, set clinical protocols, supervise and support the multidisciplinary care team, ensure clinical quality and safety, and serve as the senior clinical authority for autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.
Initially, the role comprises approximately 50% direct consultative patient care via synchronous and asynchronous visits, balanced with clinical leadership and program-building responsibilities. Over time, as the program grows, responsibility will shift toward staffing, supervising, and growing a team of clinicians including rheumatologists, physicians, and advanced practice providers (APPs).
Key responsibilities include: providing direct consultative care to members with autoimmune and inflammatory conditions; delivering expert clinical guidance on disease management in coordination with members' existing rheumatologists and primary care physicians; serving as a clinical touchpoint for complex or higher-acuity cases; building staffing models, clinical workflows, and supervision structures; developing and implementing training for physicians, APPs, and care team members; supervising APPs and physicians in accordance with state supervision requirements; recruiting, hiring, and onboarding additional clinicians as the program scales; serving as supervising physician of record; developing, reviewing, and maintaining clinical protocols and escalation criteria; providing clinical review and guidance on complex cases; ensuring alignment with rheumatology standards of care; partnering with clinical leadership, product, and operations teams to shape the program; monitoring clinical quality metrics and member outcomes; supporting development of educational content; providing clinical support to client success and commercial teams; ensuring compliance with scope-of-practice, telehealth, and licensure requirements; and participating in chart review, quality assurance, and risk management processes.
Success looks like: current, clear clinical protocols consistently followed by the care team; members receiving safe, high-quality support that complements their existing rheumatology care; care team members having reliable clinical guidance for complex cases; program clinical quality metrics meeting or exceeding targets; and a capable, well-supervised clinical team successfully recruited and built as the program scales.
