Pelago Health is seeking a Medical Director, Clinical AI to lead clinical strategy and oversight at the intersection of clinical medicine and AI product development. This senior leadership role sits at the heart of Pelago's mission to deliver personalized, evidence-based substance use and mental health care at scale.
You will own clinical protocols, guidelines, and quality standards across Pelago's care model, serving as the primary escalation point for complex clinical cases and ensuring all practices align with evidence-based research and regulatory requirements. You'll oversee medication-assisted treatment (MAT/MOUD) programs, lead clinical quality reviews, and drive outcomes measurement and protocol refinement.
A critical part of this role is serving as the embedded clinical authority for Pelago's AI-powered care platform. You'll participate in product design reviews, prompt iteration, model evaluation, and annotation strategy alongside Product and Engineering teams. You'll define clinical governance frameworks for AI-assisted care, including QA standards, escalation pathways, and compliance documentation. You'll also build feedback loops between AI-assisted and human-delivered care, ensuring seamless transitions and escalations.
You'll work closely with the VP of Care Delivery, Chief Scientific Officer, and cross-functional teams across Product, Engineering, Clinical Research, and Growth. This role requires a physician-leader who can hold the clinical line with integrity while thriving in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment and speaking fluently the language of both medicine and machine learning.
The role is hybrid with 3 days per week in the NYC office. You'll support clinical credentialing, licensure, and compliance workstreams across all operating states, and partner on clinical standards, research alignment, and program validation.
