Northwood Space is a modern space infrastructure company building a global network of phased array ground stations for satellite communications supporting national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. The Fleet Operations & Reliability Engineer will be the first line of defense for uptime and performance across Northwood's deployed hardware worldwide.
Day-to-day responsibilities span operating hardware systems, interpreting live telemetry, driving incident response, and analyzing performance data. The role requires leading field deployment campaigns to remote sites globally, maintaining and troubleshooting a growing network of antennas, and operating the Network Operations Center to monitor site health and coordinate rapid response to issues.
Key responsibilities include owning fleet uptime and performance metrics, supporting rapid network expansion through hardware deployment leadership, investigating failures and implementing root cause solutions, scaling the global contractor ecosystem through vendor management and SLA development, and partnering with product and manufacturing teams to influence designs for reliability and maintainability.
The position is based at Northwood's Los Angeles headquarters with frequent international travel required. The engineer will develop deep expertise in at least one major subsystem (RF, power, networking, or mechanical) and build scalable, automated monitoring and response systems as the network grows.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline and hands-on experience building, testing, operating, or diagnosing complex electrical or mechanical systems. Preferred qualifications include experience operating hardware in live environments, managing field operations and contractor relationships across multiple sites, proficiency with hand/power tools and test equipment, coding ability (Python, SQL), CAD proficiency, and willingness to travel internationally.
This position requires obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret Security Clearance as a condition of employment. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents due to ITAR regulations. The role requires flexibility to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
