Nusano is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its team at the West Valley City, Utah facility. You will be part of the Mechanical Engineering team responsible for designing and building out a particle accelerator-based radioisotope production facility. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including physicists, chemists, engineers, and technical support staff to develop and finalize designs for complex new devices. You will translate concepts into detailed engineering drawings, perform design analyses, identify potential problems, and develop solutions independently or collaboratively. Your responsibilities include managing all aspects of component fabrication, including complex multi-piece components, and installing, testing, commissioning, and providing lifecycle support for custom equipment. You will author and maintain procedures and documentation supporting equipment operation, develop test plans, participate in equipment qualification and evaluation testing, and present project results and designs to stakeholders. Once equipment is operational, you will serve as a subject matter expert, assisting with troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades. The role requires working effectively within a team environment, giving and receiving direction, and communicating across all organizational teams. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field, five or more years of professional work experience, aptitude for assembly work and guiding technicians, two or more years of SolidWorks CAD modeling experience, and basic computer proficiency. Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineer license or advanced degree, experience in radiation environments, knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, brazing, machining), experience with kinematics, linear motion stages, robotics, pneumatics, metrology, and precision measurement, working knowledge of high-vacuum systems, proficiency in GD&T and P&IDs per ASME standards, and quality program experience. Work is conducted in both office and assembly/production floor environments. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, sit for extended periods, be comfortable as a radiation worker, and perform hands-on assembly work. Occasional travel for site visits, vendor meetings, and conferences is required.
