The Launched Effects team manufactures the ALTIUS family of air-launched autonomous aerial systems, which are tube-launched platforms designed for extreme deployment environments with precision-engineered advanced composites, complex avionics, and modular payload integrations for ISR, electronic warfare, and kinetic strike capabilities.
As a Manufacturing Engineer - Tooling & Automation, you will lead the development and optimization of Anduril's automated, high-volume battery welding processes, including Micro-TIG and laser welding. You will champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality and productivity, making data-driven decisions to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
Key responsibilities include designing fixtures, jigs, shop aids, and material handling devices for current and future production; developing mechanical designs for automated equipment and testers; interfacing with technicians and product design engineers to establish design requirements; owning designs from concept through final production floor delivery; and troubleshooting equipment issues on the production floor.
You will need 3+ years of mechanical design experience, proficiency in CAD design, and solid understanding of tolerances and how to design equipment that allows products to meet specifications. You must be able to self-lead work with minimal oversight, understand product protection in tooling design, and have strong knowledge of machined parts, sheet metal, 3D printed parts, and aluminum extrusion frames. Proficiency in technical documentation, including drawings and instruction manuals, is required.
Preferred qualifications include experience designing control cabinets, stepper and servo motor-controlled designs, sensor selection, PLC troubleshooting, NX CAD software, and defining acceptance test procedures based on mechanical requirements.
