QuantumDiamonds, a 2022 spin-off from TU Munich, develops quantum sensing-based inspection systems for semiconductor manufacturers. The company has deployed systems with leading semiconductor players across the US, Asia, and Europe and is now scaling commercial adoption of its QDm.1 lab systems while advancing lab-to-fab development agreements with Tier 1 semiconductor manufacturers.
As Managing Director USA, you will lead the company's commercial growth and strategic expansion in the US semiconductor market. This is a senior commercial and strategic leadership role combining direct customer engagement, business development, and organizational leadership—not a traditional country management position.
Key responsibilities include:
**Commercial Growth of Lab Systems:** Own the US commercial strategy for QDm.1 systems, converting existing installations and customer evaluations into repeatable equipment sales. Develop and expand strategic accounts across semiconductor manufacturers, advanced packaging companies, and failure analysis labs. Lead complex equipment sales cycles from initial engagement through purchase orders and follow-on business. Build relationships with technical decision-makers and budget owners. Develop reliable sales pipelines, account plans, and forecasts with accountability for revenue growth. Identify expansion opportunities through additional systems and broader adoption within existing accounts. Work with local distributors on cross- and upselling.
**Lab-to-Fab Development:** Strengthen relationships with leading US semiconductor manufacturers to advance technical evaluations and identify commercially relevant use cases. Work closely with Applications, Engineering, and Product Development teams to align customer requirements with evaluation milestones and commercial objectives. Understand customer technology roadmaps and manufacturing challenges. Help turn successful wafer-level demonstrations into structured development partnerships and qualification programs. Bring commercial perspective to lab-to-fab priorities.
**Strategic Partnerships:** Act as QuantumDiamonds' senior US representative, developing trusted relationships with engineering leadership and commercial decision-makers. Navigate complex customer organizations and long decision-making cycles. Maintain close engagement with existing customers to anticipate needs and identify additional business opportunities. Represent QD in strategic negotiations, executive meetings, and industry conferences. Establish QD as a long-term technology partner.
**Customer Success:** Take regional responsibility for customer success across installations, evaluations, and ongoing support. Coordinate with Applications, Operations, and Product Development teams to align customer commitments with system readiness and delivery timelines. Help develop local field applications and service capabilities. Act as senior escalation point for strategic customer matters.
**Organization Building:** Develop the US organization in line with commercial growth and customer deployments. Recruit and lead a focused, high-performing team across commercial, field applications, and service functions. Establish clear responsibilities and ways of working between the US team and Munich headquarters. Foster a culture of technical excellence, customer focus, accountability, and hands-on problem-solving.
**Strategic Input:** Bring first-hand customer insights into global strategy, including emerging technical requirements and competitive developments. Work with Product Management and Engineering to ensure customer feedback informs product priorities. Contribute to market positioning and commercial direction decisions. Own US business planning, budgets, forecasting, and performance reporting. Act as key member of extended leadership team.
**Requirements:**
- Extensive leadership experience in the semiconductor industry, ideally within semiconductor capital equipment, metrology, inspection, test, or failure analysis
- Proven success selling complex semiconductor equipment, including managing long sales cycles, strategic customer evaluations, technical qualifications, and multimillion-dollar commercial opportunities
- Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging technologies (HBM, chiplets, 2.5D/3D integration, electrical failure analysis, debug workflows)
- Familiarity with semiconductor fabs, wafer-level processes, inline inspection and metrology, and how new technologies move from technical evaluation to manufacturing adoption
- Established network within US semiconductor ecosystem with relationships among technical leaders, engineering decision-makers, and strategic accounts
- Demonstrated ability to grow strategic accounts, build commercial pipelines, and convert early customer interest into sustained business
- Experience building or scaling a business, commercial organization, or customer-facing team, ideally within an international technology or semiconductor equipment company
- Sufficient technical depth to engage credibly with semiconductor engineers, applications specialists, and R&D teams while translating complex technology into commercial value
- Entrepreneurial mindset and hands-on leadership style, effective in fast-growing companies with evolving structures
- Strong commercial judgment, negotiation skills, and ability to navigate complex customer organizations
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with confidence to represent QD at senior executive level and collaborate with Munich headquarters
- Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco Bay Area with flexibility to travel frequently across US and regularly to Munich
