Salary: USD 290,400 - 363,000 / annual
Scale AI is seeking a Manager, Research Scientist to lead a world-class team of research scientists and engineers working on generative AI research initiatives. You will define and drive a multi-year research roadmap focused on areas such as evaluation methodologies, post-training, agentic systems, and reinforcement learning environments. Your responsibilities include leading and mentoring a team of research scientists and engineers, identifying key scientific questions, setting milestones, allocating resources, and ensuring rigorous execution.
You will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and client-facing teams, as well as external academic and industry partners, to translate research into actionable components and insights. A key part of the role involves communicating research compellingly through publications, conference presentations, open-source contributions, and external representation of the team. You will drive an inclusive, high-performing culture by helping your team navigate technical challenges, providing growth opportunities, and attracting top talent.
The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of hands-on research experience (PhD or equivalent preferred) in machine learning, deep learning, generative models, agent/RL systems, or related domains. You should have a strong track record of research excellence with publications in top-tier ML/AI venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, etc.), demonstrated experience landing major research impacts in fast-paced environments, and prior experience leading or managing research teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will articulate research ideas and outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
