New Relic is seeking a Manager of Product Design for AI Products to lead a design team in Bengaluru focused on autonomous incident response, intelligent platform layers, and AIOps solutions. This is an on-site role where you'll manage a small team of designers and own design quality across three closely related product clusters: SRE Agent, Autopilot, Intelligent RCA, Ground Truth, Agentic Platform, New Relic AI, and event correlation/incident management products.
You will manage and develop your designers through consistent 1:1s, career development conversations, direct feedback, and clear expectations. You'll own design quality by reviewing work critically, ensuring the team solves problems at the right level of craft, and consistently asking whether designs make autonomous systems legible and earn user trust. A core responsibility is keeping the user's perspective central in product and engineering discussions—bringing user research and real-world usage patterns into roadmap conversations and pushing back when features optimize for AI capability rather than user understanding.
You'll partner with product and engineering counterparts as a peer, holding the design perspective and communicating design's value in business terms: adoption, incident resolution time, customer retention. You'll manage incoming work, maintain visibility into what's in flight, help balance competing priorities, and set clear expectations about what's possible and when.
A key aspect of this role is helping your team design for AI well. You'll bring a genuine point of view on AI interaction design—trust, transparency, human-in-the-loop moments, designing for systems that act before users ask. You'll use AI tools actively in your own workflow (Figma AI, Claude, Gemini) and help your team develop theirs for faster prototyping and research synthesis. You'll contribute individual contributor design work when the work calls for it, rolling up your sleeves on complex problems. You'll also contribute to recruiting, hiring for diverse perspectives, and connecting your Bengaluru team to design, product, and engineering partners in the US and Spain, bridging time zones and ensuring your team applies New Relic's design standards locally.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of product design experience with meaningful time on technically complex B2B or enterprise software (products with real technical users and high stakes in production)
- 2–4 years of direct people management (running 1:1s, giving honest performance feedback, developing designers at different career stages)
- Genuine curiosity about AI product design; ideally already working in this space with a developing point of view on trust, transparency, and human-in-the-loop design; ability to evaluate whether a design makes an autonomous system legible and trustworthy
- Experience working in ambiguity—defining problems and shipping to learn, not waiting for a complete brief
- Experience working across time zones with comfort in async communication and ability to build working relationships with partners you won't always see in person
- Clear design point of view and confidence to use it; ability to evaluate work, give specific feedback, and hold a position with PM or engineering partners who push back
- Strong written and verbal communication in English
- Comfort working in code-adjacent tools (Claude Code, VS Code); ability to engage with and evaluate work at that level
- Portfolio showing design process and reasoning through hard problems, not just finished screens
BONUS:
- Hands-on experience designing AI-native products (agentic workflows, autonomous systems, AI confidence visualization, human-in-the-loop flows, building user trust in AI-generated outputs)
- Experience with observability, incident response, or developer-facing infrastructure products
- Familiarity with design systems and when to work within them vs. push on them
- Experience hiring and growing a design team over time
