Impulse Space seeks a Manager of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to lead the company's NDT program, combining technical strategy, internal capability development, personnel leadership, and supplier oversight in an aerospace context.
You will manage a team of NDT Engineers and Inspectors, establishing staffing plans, assigning work, setting priorities, and ensuring appropriate training, qualification, and certification. You'll own the strategic development and continuous improvement of the NDT program across multiple inspection techniques including radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, penetrant, computed tomography, and other applicable methods.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the NDT organization, including engineers, inspectors, and supporting technical personnel
- Establishing staffing plans, assigning work, setting priorities, developing personnel, and ensuring appropriate training and certification
- Owning strategic development and continuous improvement of the NDT program across multiple inspection techniques
- Providing technical leadership in selecting and implementing inspection methods for aerospace hardware
- Partnering with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Materials Engineering to determine inspection requirements and approaches
- Developing, approving, and maintaining NDT specifications, procedures, work instructions, training documentation, and program controls
- Ensuring NDT equipment is appropriately selected, qualified, maintained, calibrated, and capable
- Building and maintaining a preferred supplier base for outsourced NDT services
- Establishing supplier qualification, oversight, and performance-management processes
- Reviewing complex inspection results, supporting disposition and root-cause investigations, and providing technical input on nonconformances
- Driving standardization, process capability, data quality, and inspection repeatability
- Supporting program planning, capital-equipment decisions, budget development, and long-term capability roadmaps
- Ensuring the NDT program supports aerospace requirements and inspection needs for welds, COPVs, pressure vessels, structures, propulsion hardware, and other critical hardware
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- ASNT Level III certification in at least one relevant NDT method
- Demonstrated technical expertise across multiple NDT inspection techniques (radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, penetrant, computed tomography)
- Experience developing and maintaining an NDT program in an aerospace, spaceflight, defense, aviation, or similarly high-reliability environment
- Experience managing, mentoring, or leading NDT Engineers, Inspectors, technicians, or equivalent technical personnel
- Experience developing NDT procedures, training programs, inspection requirements, and equipment-capability plans
- Ability to evaluate inspection needs for complex hardware and determine whether internal or outsourced inspection is appropriate
