Archer is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for sustainable air mobility. The company is scaling production of its High Voltage Electric Propulsion System, which includes the battery, electric motor, and propeller assemblies—one of the most technically demanding, highly automated manufacturing systems in the factory. You will lead the Manufacturing Design Engineering (MDE) team responsible for Electric Motor and Drive Unit production lines. This is a hands-on, deeply technical role accountable for solving complex manufacturing problems under schedule pressure. Key responsibilities include: • Lead and scale a high-performing MDE team: direct hiring, career development, and resource planning for the Electric Motor/Drive Unit production lines. • Own capital equipment execution end-to-end: from RFQ and design specifications through factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and production ramp-up. Manage capex budgets and secure executive approvals. • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM): partner with Product Design and Manufacturing Engineering to inject DFM feedback into early-stage designs and optimize products for automated assembly. • Manage integrators and suppliers: lead relationships with custom equipment builders and key automation suppliers in collaboration with Global Supply Chain. • Communicate with executive leadership: present program status, capital spend forecasts, and capacity models; adapt quickly to evolving enterprise schedules. • Ensure production capacity: guarantee manufacturing equipment meets throughput, yield, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) targets to satisfy current and future delivery schedules. Required qualifications: B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Robotics Engineering (or equivalent); 2+ years of technical management; 5+ years in high-volume, automated manufacturing (EV, Aerospace, or Semiconductor preferred). Deep expertise in at least one key drive unit subsystem (Stator, Rotor, Inverter, Gearbox, or Actuators) and strong knowledge of automated assembly processes.
