As Manager, Business Enterprise Systems, you will lead a team building and operating Wealthsimple's business-critical systems of record and integrations between them. You will manage developers while remaining hands-on in code and architecture. Your role centers on building durable relationships with leaders across Finance, Legal, Customer Operations, Security, and Data—translating their operating problems into system design and owning delivery end-to-end. You report to the Senior Manager, Business Enterprise Systems with a mandate to make the business measurably better at running itself.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and sustaining trusted relationships with business leaders across Finance, HR, Legal, Customer Operations, Security, IT, and Data
- Translating business operating pain into technical scope by challenging requests and proposing better solutions
- Contributing directly as a builder: writing and reviewing production code, leading design on complex integrations, and taking on ambiguous cross-system problems
- Owning technical standards through design review, code review, and architectural direction
- Managing, coaching, and developing a team of developers with clear expectations and genuine investment in their growth
- Owning delivery of team commitments on multi-function initiatives, including scope, sequencing, dependencies, and risk
- Maintaining release and change discipline across business-critical systems with deployment cadence, environment strategy, and audit-ready controls
- Providing clear, regular visibility into team throughput, backlog health, and system risk
The ideal candidate is a trusted partner who builds real relationships with non-technical leaders, a hands-on builder who leads by example in code and design, and an empathetic leader with a high bar who gives honest feedback early.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of application development experience, including at least 2 years managing a development team and leading them through successful delivery of custom builds
- Strong working knowledge of at least one general-purpose language (Java, TypeScript, Ruby, or Python) with recent hands-on experience building production systems
- Experience planning and furthering professional growth of individual team members (1-1s, performance reviews, feedback, goal-setting, promotions)
- Track record of providing technical and process guidance to a team throughout delivery
- Experience planning and delivering application projects (implementations, migrations, upgrades, configuration) with deadline, resource, and cross-functional stakeholder organization
- Experience owning integrations and data flows across third-party software platforms
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform) for automation in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or similar)
- Experience with resource allocation and strategic roadmap development, including sequencing competing priorities and defending tradeoffs
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels and collaborate effectively across functions
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and drive process improvements
- Experience applying AI tools to accelerate development and automate business workflows
Nice to have: Experience with tool APIs (Jira, Slack, Okta, Workato, Google Workspace) in enterprise environments; experience managing development teams in high-growth technology or fintech/regulated industries.
