Kin Insurance is seeking a Licensed Underwriting Services Associate to serve as a trusted risk expert supporting homeowners across 13 states. This is a hands-on, licensed role that owns the risk side of the customer experience across the full policy lifecycle—from initial review through active service and renewal.
You will conduct risk reviews applying Kin's underwriting rulesets, review and adjudicate inspection findings (including Coverage A valuations in the $1M–$2M range), and manage complex risk files end to end. Your responsibilities include gathering required documentation from customers, resolving open items, fielding transferred calls from Customer Service related to underwriting questions, and serving as the risk-side partner to Sales on referred cases. You'll manage post-bind and renewal underwriting requirements, process premium-bearing policy actions in compliance with state regulations, and communicate underwriting outcomes clearly to customers and partner teams—including declines and additional-requirement conversations. You'll also surface patterns and process gaps that can be turned into rules, reducing manual review volume over time.
Kin is a remote-first, venture-backed fintech company founded in 2016, focused on making homeowners insurance simpler and more affordable. The company has been recognized by Built In Chicago, Forbes (America's Best Startup Employers, Fintech 50), Inc. 5000, and Great Places to Work. You'll work in a high-volume, customer-first environment with real ownership and the autonomy to make decisions within your delegated authority.
The role requires availability for Monday–Friday shifts (7 AM–4 PM, 8 AM–5 PM, 9 AM–6 PM, or 10 AM–7 PM CST, based on need) and a rotating Saturday shift every 4–6 weeks.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Active Property & Casualty (P&C) or Personal Lines license (required)
- Direct underwriting, underwriting-support, or advanced policy-servicing experience in home insurance
- Working knowledge of property risk review, inspections, and pre-bind requirements
- Sound judgment applying defined rulesets to individual policies, with discernment to escalate cases outside the rules
- Strong written communication for customer-facing and cross-functional correspondence
- Comfort navigating multiple systems and working in a fast-moving, evolving environment with limited structure
- Bonus: prior experience with Kin's underwriting queues, inspections, or RBR workflows
- Must be able to live and work full-time in one of 41 eligible US states (AL, AR, AZ, CA exempt only, CO, CT, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WI)
